Behind the Brand
Hinterland Music Festival draws thousands of people around the world to the middle-of-nowhere Iowa for a weekend of music and fun. Since its creation in 2015, I have been the creative director—designing everything from signage, t-shirts, collateral, social media content, and more. The overall branding is unique and eye-catching, while our content is approachable and resonates with their audience.
When developing the brand, it was important that Hinterland have a unique and bold presence. We wanted the design to feel as unique as the festival. Our design aesthetic mixes bold modern colors, with grungy textures and lettering in a way that feels fresh and cool. The color gradients play homage to Iowa summer sunsets and the feeling of being surrounded by open sky in the Iowa countryside.
